Prior to his arrival, there was virtually no medical care available for 120,000 people, most of whom had to walk long distances to get help for preventable diseases.

In 2023, Bwindi Community Hospital celebrated the twentieth anniversary since its founding in 2003. For this momentous occasion, founder Dr. Scott Kellermann Executive Director Laura Corley spoke at a grand celebration at the hospital.
