Charles Pinches, PhD, Chairman

Charles graduated with a Ph.D. in Theological Ethics from the University of Notre Dame and is a retired Professor of Theology at the University of Scranton. Charles has published and co-published several books and is an international speaker. He first visited Bwindi in 2005 and has returned as a trip leader with students from the University of Scranton several times. Dr. and Mrs. Pinches, who are active members at their church, live in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania.

Jeff Gardner, Vice Chairman

Jeff is a native Texan with more than thirty years of experience in founding, managing and developing ventures in technology, publishing, energy, and the Arts. One of his greatest loves is his church where he is a vestry member, choir member, and volunteer for local mission church partners. When Jeff and his family met Dr. Scott Kellermann several years ago, they were eager to support the foundation’s work in education and maternal healthcare. Jeff lives in Coppell, Texas and enjoys time at his Fairfield, Texas ranch and Nantucket cottage.

Mary Sonom, Treasurer

Mary is a native Texan with more than forty years of experience as a Certified Public Accountant. Her work spans across professional, non-profit, and community volunteer sectors. She holds a BBA in Accounting and an MBA from Texas A&M University and serves as Chief Financial Officer of Eiseman Jewels in Dallas. Mary and her husband Don are members of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Richardson and have both participated in the church’s mission trips to Bwindi.. 

Susan Ufer, Secretary

Susan grew up in an Air Force family, which instilled in her a love for travel, meeting new people and nurturing relationships.  She is passionate about all things that conserve and preserve our precious resources. Susan is a LEED Accredited Professional, and a practicing sustainability consultant in Dallas. Susan and her husband Michael are members of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Richardson where she serves in several capacities, with her most passionate one being a member of the Uganda Mission Team, since 2018.

LuAnne Brubaker

LuAnne spent her growing up years in Southeast Asia and has always had a love of travel and exploring the richness of other cultures.  Trained as an ESL teacher at Houghton College and Syracuse University, much of her working life has been spent teaching English in various capacities and providing academic support to university students.  Recently she and her husband, David spent 10 months in Bwindi volunteering at the Nursing School and the Batwa Development Program. They are excited to stay connected to the work of the KF there.  LuAnne currently works as a fiber artist and volunteers in her community in Houghton, NY. 

Don Geiger

Don is an award-winning storyteller whose gifts include writing, editing, publication management and photography. He works on the Corporate Communications team at Texas Instruments in Dallas and also is president and owner of Geiger Associates Inc., which is a small communications agency that helps organizations tell their stories. Don and his wife, Sharon, volunteer with several ministries, including Vision Africa and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Irving, Texas. Don hopes to visit Bwindi with the church’s mission team.

Jolayne La Cour

Jolayne has a background as a defense technology software engineering manager.  She has been active in her church and diocese in many capacities and has been supporting young adult ministry across the North Texas region.  She and her husband, Wayne, joined a Kellerman Foundation mission trip in 2012.  Jolayne enjoys her time with fellow Master Gardeners at demonstration gardens and public events as well as time with her children and grandchildren.

Julia Lippert

Julia recently graduated with a Master's in Public Health and Tropical Medicine from Tulane University as a Delta Omega member. After graduating with a BS in Biology from Seattle Pacific University, she worked at Seattle's Pacific Science Center, then proceeded to do improv comedy and work in entertainment in Los Angeles. She is passionate about public health communication and improving healthcare access. Since 2013 she has spent 10 months in the Bwindi region volunteering with the Batwa Development Program, Bwindi Community Hospital, leading vision clinics, and working with a UC Davis team on surveillance of emerging infectious diseases around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Birungi Mutahunga, M.D.

Dr. Birungi graduated from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and University of London with a Master of Science in Public Health. He previously served at Bwindi Community Hospital as Executive Director and led several public health interventions with national and international awards. Dr. Birungi currently serves as a Health Officer for Uganda’s southwestern district of Kanungu. He is also a doctoral student of corporate strategy at Paris School of Business with an emphasis on addressing the challenges of health care in the low-income countries. Dr. Birungi enjoys singing gospel songs and is an accomplished musician.

Aida Nantege

Aida is a native Ugandan who graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from Makerere University in Kampala. She is currently the Donor Services Manager for SOS Children’s Villages Uganda, an award-winning national child sponsorship program for orphaned and abandoned children. From 2011 to 2016, Aida worked as the Fundraising and Communications Manager at Bwindi Community Hospital where she collaborated with the Kellermann Foundation to raise funds for the hospital and nursing school.

Ken Tomchuk

After serving in the Air Force, Ken got a BS from the University of New Mexico in Information Systems, and an MBA from Amber University. He spent half of his career working in IT for government and industry, then he worked as a consultant/project manager for major IT implementations across North America. Ken served on the Business Advisory Council in Dallas whose focus was to select, educate, and employ under/unemployed people with disabilities as computer programmers. Ken and his wife Karen also spent three months in Bwindi working with the BDP, where Ken developed a database to track student progress. Today, he continues that involvement with St James Episcopal Church in Knoxville, TN. Upon retirement, Karen and Ken spent 5 years traveling the USA and Canada in an RV, a year internationally, then settled down in Pigeon Forge, TN, where they continue their travels both regionally and internationally.
