Byumba School students shine

Education is an imperative in developing countries such as Uganda. The Batwa Development Program (BDP) works in the southwestern region of the country helping to fulfill its mission to “empower the Batwa community through education, land, food security, and sustainable income generation so they become valued members of society.” When it comes to the next generation of Ugandans, they have one key initiative in mind—education.

The BDP oversees four schools with a student population of approaching 1,200 students. Recently, one school stood out among other schools in the entire region: Byumba Pres Primary School in the community of Byumba.

Eight children in Primary 1 and five children in Primary 2 earned exceptional grades. Overall, most other students scored high, making Byumba Pres the leading primary school in this year’s national Primary Leaving Examinations in the sub-county and one among the best primary schools in the district.

Congratulations to the teachers, BDP staff, and especially the students who performed so well.
